ODOC: Correctional officer arrested after alleged sexual battery of inmate at Lexington facility

Authorities arrested a correctional officer accused of sexual battery of an inmate at the Oklahoma Department of Correction's facility in Lexington. A 32-year-old woman is accused of attempting to steal a family home after their loved one passed away. The process to clean up a major bridge in Baltimore is now underway, with Maryland's President, Jessica Bienien, asking for $60 million in funding. The state's Transportation Department is also receiving funds from the Department of Transportation (DSPORT) to begin the cleanup. Meanwhile, Maryland's Governor, Jessica, is asking for funds to build the head of the FEDERAL Highwayway ADMINISTRATION. However, there are concerns about the design and safety of the new structure. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has issued a warning about potential incidents like this.

ALL RIGHT, DAVID, WE’LL CHECK BACK IN WITH YOU IN A BIT. TURNING TO OUR NEXT TOP FIVE, A WOMAN LOOKING TO BECOME A HOME HOME OWNER, BUT DOING IT WITH ALL OF THE WRONG WAYS AND THE WRONG REASONS. THE 32 YEAR-OLD IS ACCUSED OF TRYING TO STEAL A FAMILY’S HOME AFTER THEIR LOVED ONE PASSED AWAY. OFFICIALS SAY THAT THEY’VE SEEN THINGS LIKE THIS HAPPENING NATIONWIDE AND SAY IT CAN HAPPEN OVERNIGHT. PEOPLE ARE SITTING ON THEIR COUCH AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THEIR PROPERTY IS STOLEN. SAY THANK YOU TO. IT’S PRETTY SCARY HERE. WELL, TODAY, THE OKLAHOMA COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE HELD A PRESS CONFERENCE TALKING ABOUT THIS BRAZEN ATTEMPT. KOCO PICHICHI WAS THERE AND COMING UP TONIGHT AT SIX, HE SHOWS YOU HOW TO PREVENT SOMETHING LIKE THIS FROM HAPPENING TO YOU IN OUR NEXT TOP FIVE. THE PROCESS TO CLEAN UP AND EVENTUALLY REBUILD THAT MAJOR BRIDGE IN BALTIMORE IS NOW UNDERWAY. PRESIDENT BIDEN HAS VOWED TO USE FEDERAL FUNDS TO PAY FOR IT AFTER THE FRANCIS SCOTT KEY BRIDGE COLLAPSED. THIS WEEK, WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT KALYN NORWOOD SPOKE TO THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION ABOUT THE PROCESS THIS SECOND. JESS, MARYLAND’S GOVERNOR, IS ASKING FOR $60 MILLION IN A FIRST STEP TOWARDS REBUILDING THE HEAD OF THE FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TELLS ME THAT FUNDING IS EXPECTED TO GO OUT AS SOON AS TODAY TO BEGIN THE CLEANUP. AS CREWS NOW LOOK TO REMOVE THE TWISTED WRECKAGE FROM THE MAJOR BRIDGE COLLAPSE IN BALTIMORE, THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION IS SENDING FEDERAL FUNDS TO BEGIN THAT CLEANUP EFFORT. RIGHT NOW, WE’RE PROBABLY TALKING IN THE, YOU KNOW, TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS, UH, THAT WILL FLOW. BUT ULTIMATELY, YOU KNOW, IT’LL IT’LL CLIMB TO HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS AND POTENTIALLY EVEN HIGHER. THE HEAD OF THE FEDERAL. HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION TELLS ME THAT MONEY IS COMING FROM EMERGENCY RELIEF FUNDS IN THE TRANSPORTATION BUDGET UNTIL CONGRESS STEPS IN, SOMETHING LAWMAKERS RECOGNIZE MAY BE CHALLENGING IN THIS POLITICAL CLIMATE. I’M CAUTIOUSLY OPTIMISTIC THAT WE’LL BE ABLE TO DO SOMETHING, UH, BECAUSE OBVIOUSLY WE UNDERSTAND THE URGENCY OF THE MOMENT. THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION SAYS IT’S ALREADY DISCUSSING THE COST AND MATERIALS NEEDED TO REBUILD WITH THE STATE OF MARYLAND. BUT THERE ARE QUESTIONS ABOUT THE DESIGN. AS FEDERAL INVESTIGATORS HAVE FOUND, THE OLD BRIDGE DIDN’T APPEAR TO HAVE PIER PROTECTION TO WITHSTAND A CRASH, A RISK A FORMER NTSB INVESTIGATOR SAYS THE AGENCY WARNED ABOUT. HOPEFULLY, THE INVESTIGATION WILL LOOK AT WHAT OR WHY THE FEDERAL HIGHWAY ADMINISTRATION AND THE STATE OF MARYLAND DIDN’T ACT ON THE NTSB RECOMMENDATIONS OVER THE LAST 50 YEARS. WAS IT A MISTAKE TO NOT REQUIRE THAT THIS BRIDGE HAVE SOME OF THE PROTECTIONS IN PLACE TO ABSORB A HIT? THERE WERE DOLPHINS IN THE WATER. THESE ARE STRUCTURES TO PROTECT THE PIERS. WE’LL WAIT FOR THE NTSB INVESTIGATION TO COME BACK. I THINK WHAT WE’RE WANTING TO UNDERSTAND, ANYTIME THERE’S A TRAGEDY OF THIS MAGNITUDE IS WHAT DOES THAT LEAD TO IT, AND HOW CAN WE LEARN AND BETTER HARDEN OUR INFRASTRUCTURE? THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION SAYS THAT A BRIDGE LIKE THIS FROM THE 1970S WAS SIMPLY NOT MADE TO WITHSTAND A DIRECT IMPACT. MEANTIME, THE ADMINISTRATOR TELLS ME THAT THE REBUILDING PROCESS COULD TAKE MONTHS OR EVEN A COUPLE OF YEARS IN WASHINGTON, KAYLA NORWOOD, KOCO FIVE NEWS. ALL RIGHT, CAITLIN AND TRANSPORT SECRETARY PETE BUTTIGIEG WAS MEETING WITH SUPPLY CHAIN OFFICIALS TODAY TO DISCUSS THEIR NEEDS WHILE THE PORT OF BALTIMORE REMAINS CLOSED. AND THEN THOSE ARE YOUR TOP FIVE STORIES. OF COURSE, OUR COVERAGE DOESN’T END THERE. NOW IS THE TIME TO DOWNLOAD THE KOCO APP SO YOU CAN GET THE LATEST ON BREAKING NEWS AND WEATHER. NEW TODAY ISRAELI PRIME MINISTER BENJAMIN NETANYAHU TELLING MEMBERS OF THE U.S. CONGRESS THAT THAT VICTORY IN GAZA IS JUST, QUOTE, A FEW WEEKS AWAY. HE ADDED THAT ISRAEL HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO GO THROUGH WITH THE GROUND OFFENSIVE IN RAFAH. ISRAEL HAS FACED CRITICISM AHEAD OF THAT PLANNED MOVE. IN A MEETING EARLIER THIS WEEK, SENIOR U.S. OFFICIALS AND ISRAELI DEFENSE MINISTER HADN’T REACHED AN AGREEMENT ON HOW ISRAEL SHOULD SHOULD MOVE FORWARD WITH ANY OPERATION IN RAFAH. BOTH SIDES HAVE AGREED TO CONTINUE THOSE DISCUSSIONS. WELL, COULD OKLAHOMA’S PRISON RODEO MAKE A COMEBACK? YOU KNOW, IT’S VERY POSSIBLE AS A BILL TO FUND THE RODEO AND A NEW STADIUM IS ONE STEP CLOSER TO BECOMING LAW. KOCO ANDY WEBER JOINING US LIVE THIS AFTERNOON, ANDY, THIS BILL IS STILL GETTING SOME PUSHBACK. YEAH. SUPPORTERS ARGUE THE PRISON RODEO IS A POPULAR EVENT THAT BRINGS REVENUE TO BOTH MCALESTER AS WELL AS THE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTIONS, BUT OPPONENTS SAY IT’S SOMETHING THE STATE GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT BE INVOLVED IN THE BILL. WE’RE TALKING ABOUT HERE IS HOUSE BILL 3749. IT SETS UP A REVOLVING FUND TO RESTORE, REHAB AND EXPAND THE DOC’S PRISON RODEO ARENA. THE BILL PASSED 7 TO 4 THIS AFTERNOON. IT NEEDS ANOTHER VOTE ON THE SENATE FLOOR BEFORE IT CAN BE SENT TO THE GOVERNOR. OTHER BILLS CLEARING COMMITTEE TODAY INCLUDE HOUSE BILL 3427 BY SENATOR J. A DOSSETT. IT WOULD GIVE OKLAHOMANS A TAX CREDIT OF UP TO $500 FOR PURCHASING FIREARM SAFETY DEVICES, INCLUDING GUN SAFES. THIS WOULD APPLY TO TAX YEAR 2025. IT ADVANCED TO THE SENATE FLOOR WITH A UNANIMOUS VOTE THIS AFTERNOON. IN THAT COMMITTEE, AND WHILE WE’VE WRAPPED FOR THE WEEK, LAWMAKERS HERE AT THE STATE CAPITOL STILL HAVE TWO WEEKS TO HAVE BILLS PASSED OUT OF THE OPPOSITE COMMITTEE MEETING. HOUSE BILLS AND SENATE COMMITTEES AND SENATE BILLS IN HOUSE COMMITTEES. GUYS, BACK TO YOU AND ANDY. THAT WASN’T THE ONLY MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT. WE ALSO LEARNED THAT A VERY INFLUENTIAL HOUSE LAWMAKER TODAY, RHONDA BAKER, SAYS THAT SHE WILL NOT BE SEEKING REELECTION. YES. STATE REP RHONDA BAKER FROM MOORE. SHE CURRENTLY SERVES AS THE HOUSE EDUCATION CHAIR. SHE’S BEEN IN THAT ROLE DURING A TIME WHERE EDUCATION POLICY HAS BECOME FRONT AND CENTER HERE IN OKLAHOMA STATE POLITICS. SHE’S ALSO NOTABLY AVOIDED ANY PUBLIC SQUABBLES WITH STATE SUPERINTENDENT RYAN WALTERS, WHO HAS CLASHED WITH OTHER STATE LAWMAKERS. SHE DID RELEASE A STATEMENT TODAY. SHE DID NOT EXPLAIN WHY SHE IS LEAVING OR IF SHE’LL RUN FOR HIGHER OFFICE, BUT DID SAY, QUOTE, I RECOGNIZE THERE IS STILL MUCH TO BE DONE AND I PROMISE TO CONTINUE ADVANCING THE CAUSE OF PUBLIC EDUCATION THROUGHOUT MY LIFE. BAKER’S TERMS WILL END IN NOVEMBER. SHE IS NOW SERVED EIGHT YEARS IN THE STAT
