FORECAST: Cooler temps and chances of rain before heat returns

KOCO Meteorologist Sabrina Bates talks about cooler temperatures and rain chances over the next few days. The National Weather Service has issued a cold snap forecast for the summer, with temperatures expected to cool down and chances of rain before heat returns. The weather service is focusing on strong to severe storm systems across the South and East Oklahoma, particularly focusing on the SOUTHEAST and WESTERN OKLAHOMA. MCALESTER discusses the potential of these storms, which are expected to be particularly strong and severe. He suggests that while these storms are not expected to move quickly, they could cause some issues if they disrupt any plans outside of the house. The forecast includes temperatures of up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit across the Midwest, with highs expected to remain in the 90s.

ESPECIALLY IN THE SUMMERTIME, WE WANT THAT RELIEF. WE DIDN’T NECESSARILY SEE THAT IT’S STILL PRETTY HUMID, ESPECIALLY OKC TO THE SOUTH. FEW STORMS OUT THERE, NOT EXPECTING MUCH SEVERE WEATHER FOR MANY OF US. MAINLY FOCUSED ON ANY TYPE OF STRONG TO SEVERE STORMS THAT ARE GOING TO BE ACROSS SOUTHERN AND SOUTHEASTERN OKLAHOMA. HERE’S MCALESTER. SO THESE ARE MOVING TOWARDS THE SOUTHEAST, AWAY FROM US AND GOING BE HEADED FARTHER TOWARDS THE RED RIVER. WHAT I’M WATCHING IS GOING TO BE CLOSER TOWARDS WESTERN OKLAHOMA AND REALLY ALONG I-40 TO THE SOUTH. THAT’S WHERE WE HAVE VERY TYPICAL SPOTTY SUMMERTIME STORMS NOT MOVING VERY FAST. THEY BUBBLE ON UP. YOU GET SOME REALLY GOOD HEAVY RAINFALL. IF YOU GET THAT ONE STORM OVER YOU, SOME LIGHTNING, MAYBE SOME BRIEF GUSTY WINDS, AND THAT’S GOING TO BE ABOUT IT. BUT IT WILL CAUSE OF COURSE SOME ISSUES IF YOU HAVE ANY PLANS OUTSIDE OF COURSE IF YOU’RE ALONG I-40 FROM ELK CITY, CLINTON DOWN TOWARDS WEATHERFORD MOVES ALL THE WAY BACK TOWARDS HINTON, NOT ALL THE WAY TOWARDS EL RENO. WE MOVE A BIT FARTHER TOWARDS THE SOUTH, JUST TO THE NORTH OF LAWTON, NEAR SNYDER HOBART, AND THEN EVEN BACK TO THE SOUTH SIDE OF ERICK. SO THOSE ARE THE POP UP SHOWERS AND STORMS WE SEE RIGHT NOW BY THE TIME WE GET TO SUNSET, I’M EXPECTING THESE TO REALLY SETTLE ON DOWN. WE’LL BE PRETTY DRY FOR OVERNIGHT, BUT LET’S TAKE A LOOK OVER OKC WHERE EVEN THOUGH WE’RE NOT SEEING ANY OF THOSE STORMS, ANY OF THAT RAIN, IT IS A BIT CLOUDY OUTSIDE. SO OF COURSE IF YOU’RE LUCKY ENOUGH TO GET UNDER SOME SHADE NOT IN THE SUN, IT’S NOT FEELING TERRIBLE OUTSIDE. NOT AS HOT AS YESTERDAY 85 RIGHT NOW FEELS LIKE IT IS 89. YOU COULD SORT OF SEE A DIFFERENCE IN OUR TEMPERATURES SLIGHTLY WITH THAT COLD FRONT THAT MOVED ON THROUGH. WE’RE LOOKING AT MORE OF THOSE LOW 80S ACROSS NORTHERN PARTS OF THE METRO, CLOSER TO 90 SOUTHERN PARTS OF THE METRO. WE ZOOM OUT TO ALL OF OKLAHOMA. YOU SEE A BIT MORE OF A DIFFERENCE, RIGHT? SO THAT FRONT IS HELPING SOME OF US GET SOME SORT OF RELIEF. WE’RE LOOKING AT UPPER 70S, LOW 80S FROM WOODWARD, ENID UP TOWARDS PONCA CITY. STILL IN THE 90S THOUGH, FOR THOSE OF YOU ALONG THE RED RIVER. AND JUST A COMPARISON HERE, WHEN YOU LOOK AT THIS TODAY, HIGH TEMPERATURE OKC 88 DEGREES YESTERDAY 95. SO IT’S NOT AS HOT. IT’S STILL WARM OUTSIDE. IT’S STILL HOT OUT THERE. BUT WE’LL TAKE IT RIGHT NEXT FEW HOURS. IF YOU HAVE ANY PLANS ON THIS SUNDAY EVENING WE’LL BE STICKING INTO THE 70S. SOME NORTH WINDS WON’T BE WON’T BE TOO BAD OUTSIDE. WE TURN TOWARDS TOMORROW MORNING. THERE’S GOING TO BE A SYSTEM WAY OUT TOWARDS NEW MEXICO THAT EVENTUALLY TRIES TO INCH CLOSER TOWARDS US. COULD BRING US SOME RAIN ACROSS SOUTHWESTERN PARTS OF OKLAHOMA. I THINK THESE STORMS WILL REALLY WEAKEN AND DIE DOWN AS THEY GET TOWARDS US. BUT THIS IS ABOUT 8 A.M., SO I THINK MANY OF US WILL BE STAYING DRY INTO THE MORNING. WE’LL JUST BE WATCHING SOUTHERN SOUTHWESTERN OKLAHOMA FOR A FEW OF THOSE STORMS OVERNIGHT FOR TONIGHT. SOME RELIEF FROM THE HEAT, THOUGH. WE’RE DROPPING INTO THE 50S ACROSS NORTHERN OKLAHOMA AND THROUGHOUT THE DAY. FOR TOMORROW, WE’LL SEE SOME PARTLY CLOUDY SKIES, TEMPERATURES ONCE AGAIN ONLY GOING TO BE SITTING RIGHT AROUND 80. SO ANOTHER DAY WHERE IT’S NOT TERRIBLY HOT OUTSIDE. AND HEY, SOUTHERN OKLAHOMA, YOU GET SOME RELIEF TOO. WILL BE IN THE LOW 80S FOR SOUTHERN PARTS OF THE STATE. BUT WE’RE STARTING TO SEE A BIT OF A PATTERN CHANGE. YES, WE HAVE STORM CHANCES MONDAY. TUESDAY WE GET TO WEDNESDAY, THOUGH. WE DRY OUT THURSDAY, FRIDAY WE DRY OUT TOO. AND EVEN FOR MONDAY, TUESDAY RAIN. I’M REALLY FOCUSING ACROSS SOUTHERN AND SOUTHWESTERN PARTS OF THE STATE, SO NOT EVERYONE IS GOING TO BE SEEING RAIN THE NEXT TWO DAYS. WE TURN TO WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY. JUST LOOK AT THIS. THERE’S NO RAIN ANYWHERE NEAR OKLAHOMA, SO WE START TO SEE MORE OF THAT SUMMERTIME WEATHER. WE’RE JUST TURNING VERY DRY. IT IS TURNING VERY HOT OUTSIDE, AND THAT’S GOING TO BE STICKING AROUND FOR AT LEAST A DECENT AMOUNT OF TIME. WE’LL BE WATCHING FOR THOSE STORM CHANCES AGAIN MONDAY, TUESDAY I THINK MAINLY SOUTHWESTERN AND SOUTHERN PARTS OF THE STATE. WE SEE A LOT MORE SUNSHINE ON WEDNESDAY AND JUST LOOK AT THAT HOT WEATHER RETURN BY THURSDAY AND FRIDAY. WE’RE SEEING THOSE 90S AND THOSE 90S ARE STICKING AROUND THROUGH TH
