Oklahoma City Thunder's Depth is Fueling a New Star Debate
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander's supporting cast has become the central argument over how Oklahoma City should be judged. The Oklahoma City Thunder's depth has become a central issue in the league's best-player debate, with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander facing a challenge. Gilgerous-Alexander has won consecutive MVP awards and led the Thunder to the 2025 NBA title, and averaged 31.1 points on 55.3% shooting in 2025-26. The question is whether the Thunder's roster amplifies his performance or provides evidence of his value. A host of The Sitdown w/ Malik Wright argued that the Thunder’s two-way personnel makes Gilgeese-Alexander's job easier, while another host argued that reducing Gilgeong-Alexander to a scorer ignores his ball control, ability to draw double teams, passing, and late-game shotmaking. Los Angeles Lakers forward-guard Luka Dončić's comparison is sharpening the disagreement.
