Oklahoma leaders break ground on new mental health hospital, symbolizing shift in care received

The Donahue Behavioral Health Hospital will be Oklahoma's largest mental health hospital, and officials said a new facility like this shows that Oklahoma wants mental health care to be at the forefront of what they do. Oklahoma leaders have broken ground on a $150 million mental health hospital, Donahue Behavioral Health Hospital, which will replace Griffin Memorial Hospital in Norman. The hospital will be located on the Oklahoma State University-Oklahoma City campus near Interstate 44 and West Reno Avenue and will replace the current facility that has been serving Oklahomans for over a century. The groundbreaking ceremony included representatives from the Legislature, City Mayor David Holt, and the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse. The new hospital will provide a better central location, more beds, and be able to serve both adults and children. It will be on the campus of the Oklahoma state University and will be completed in spring 2024.
